Housebound

There are many people who for whatever reason are unable to leave their home. Sara, for example, is housebound - she recently had a hip replacement operation. Sara manages to fill her days by being occupied with the large range of handicraft options provided by the SAVI project: She sews and embroiders to pass the time. Sara finds that handicrafts calm her body and soul. She hopes to return to the activities of the community club for the aged as soon as possible.

The SAVI project is designed to bring handicraft kits to the house-bound elderly, right to their doorstep. The work encourages them to function and carry out independent activities at home.

The SAVI program supplies materials for the aged, who are unable to attend day centers, as a result of temporary or ongoing deterioration in their physical ability. These people often become isolated, therefore it is important to provide them with pleasurable craft activities to help maintain their sense of usefulness and self esteem.
