International Holocaust Day Ceremony – Rishonim Junior High School

A ceremony to mark the International Holocaust Day took place at the Café Europe Club operated in cooperation with the Lions Lev Ari Club, CLICK, WIZO, Eshel and the municipality. Students of Rishonim Junior High School meticulously lead the ceremony and it was evident that great effort was put into its preparation under the guidance of the teacher, Sarah Cohen who volunteers at Lions Lev Ari. The students sang, played instruments, and read passages related to remembering the Holocaust and to the U.N. decision to mark this day. The U.N. decision stated that the U.N. condemns any form of Holocaust denial, racism and anti-Semitism. The 27th of January was chosen because on this day, the Aushwitz concentration camp was liberated by the Red Army. At the ceremony, a film was screened – Israeli pilots who flew over the Aushwitz concentration camp and saluted the heroism of millions of Jewish victims. According to the pilots– "we the air-force pilots who arose from the ashes of the millions, salute their heroism and vow to defend the Jewish people and their homeland, Israel. A student of Rishonim Junior High School closed the ceremony with the words: "We the students of Rishonim salute you today, members of Café Europe for your life story and immigration to Israel. Your story is worthy of praise"- In the background the anthem, "Hatikva" could be heard – for the conclusion of the air-force flyover.
