Hod Hasharon Elders Go Green

Hod Hasharon offers a wide variety of activity for elders in clubs all around the city. Usually, the elders arrive at these centers using pre-arranged transportation from their homes. Recently, a group of members of the Netaim Center run by CLICK decided to forego transportation and walk to the center and back again. The members realized that with this small change they’ve accomplished two very important goals: maintain a healthier life style and protect the environment. They simultaneously improve their own personal physical health and reduce the amount of gas fumes released into the air. This initiative is part of the general “Walking Safely” project run by CLICK, the municipality and Eshel. Walking offers significant benefits for the older population. It’s easy to perform, can be done on a daily basis and doesn’t require the use of expensive equipment. Many elders are interested in walking, but are fearful of falling or not crossing the road fast enough. That’s why we encourage them to join a group as part of our “Walking Safely” program. If you know someone who could benefit from this project, or would like to volunteer, please contact Tali, the municipal sports coordinator at telephone: 050 210-2826 Photo shows Edna Prizat, a volunteer walking coordinator and a group of Netaim members walking to their club.
