Training Course for Walking Supervisors

This week CLICK held a course for “Walking Supervisors”. The course was designed to train volunteers on accompanying walking groups for the elderly. During the course, the volunteers were given direction on how to effectively lead walking groups, with an emphasis on health and safety. The course was delivered by a physiotherapist from ESHEL, a program funded by the JOINT. The attendees learned about and took part in group trips around the city. The walking groups will meet once a week during the morning, accompanied by Walking Supervisors. The Hod Hasharon Police Department provides their cooperation and explanations during the walk itself on topics such as how to safely and confidently cross streets. Walking has an important role for the older generation. It’s easy to do, doesn’t require expensive equipment or membership fees and can be done every day. Many elders would like to start walking regularly, but are afraid of going out on their own in case they fall or come across heavy traffic when crossing streets. Everyone is welcome to join the “Walking in Safety” groups. If you are interested in joining a group or volunteering as a Walking Supervisor, please contact Tali, the municipal sports coordinator at tel: 050 210-2826.
